Sentence Variety

Use a variety of sentences to make your writing more interesting.


Use a combination of short sentences and long sentences.


3 Types of Sentences:
1) Simple Sentences
2) Compound Sentences
3) Complex Sentences


Simple Sentences = 1 independent clause
Example: I live in Chicago.


Compound Sentences - 2 or more independent clauses.
Example: Yesterday I went to the park, but my brother stayed home.


Complex Sentences = at least 1 independent clause + at least 1 dependent clause
Example: My sister texted me while I was at the bookstore.
